FAQ

My student is away at school - can this still work? Yes — all sessions can be conducted virtually. In-person sessions are available in Central CT. Sessions happen on their schedule through a video call. All they need is a computer and a quiet space.

My college student already has accommodations through disability services. Do they still need coaching? Accommodations and coaching serve different purposes. Accommodations reduce barriers — coaching builds skills. Many students with accommodations still struggle with the day-to-day executive function demands of college life. Coaching helps them figure out how to use their accommodations effectively and develop the independent strategies that carry them beyond any single class or semester.

What if my student misses a session? Please provide a 24-hour cancellation notice to reschedule. The session needs to be rescheduled within 6 months.

Is this therapy? This is not therapy. Executive function coaching focuses on practical strategies and accountability to help students manage school more effectively.

What ages do you work with? I work with middle school, high school, and college students.

How long are coaching sessions? Sessions are 45 minutes. Sessions also include meeting preparation, weekly parent updates, and optional mid-week accountability check-ins.

How is executive function coaching different from tutoring? Tutoring typically focuses on academic content (like math, writing, or subject-specific skills). Executive function coaching focuses on how students manage school itself — things like organization, planning, task initiation, time management, follow-through, and breaking down assignments. The goal is to help students become more independent and confident in how they approach their work, not just what they are learning.

Do parents receive updates? Yes. Parent communication is an important part of the process. Depending on the student’s needs, updates may include brief check-ins, progress notes, or shared strategies so parents know what we are working on and how to support their student at home without becoming the “homework manager.”

Is coaching covered by insurance or financial aid? Executive Function coaching is not covered by health insurance or financial aid. It is a transparent, package-based service with no surprise costs.

What if my student is resistant to coaching? Executive Function Coaching can be incredibly effective — but it works best when both the student and the family are ready for it. Here’s a helpful guide to help you decide if this is the right time. This may be a great fit if... * Your student is struggling with homework completion, organization, time management, or meeting deadlines. * Your student is open to trying something new. * You're ready to invest in building long-term skills rather than looking for a quick fix. * You can support and gently reinforce the strategies at home between sessions. * You're looking for targeted executive function skills support (not subject tutoring or therapy). It might not be the right time yet if... * Your student is strongly resistant and has no interest in getting any kind of support right now. * Your family's schedule doesn’t allow for consistent weekly sessions. * You're hoping someone will do the work for your student instead of coaching them on how to do it themselves. * Your student's primary needs would be better addressed by a therapist, counselor, or subject-specific tutor first.
